Acqui Terme is a spa town which first became important for its waters in Roman times. Roman remains are numerous. Indeed, aqueducts and Roman pools are still presents. It is one of the founder members of EHTTA. Nowadays, it is a busy tourist and cultural center, based around the hot therapeutic water and spa buildings. Its archaeological museum is well documented.
There are several prestigious festivals and events in the Acqui Terme annual calendar. The most important of these is the Premio Acqui Storia, which since 2006 has been under the Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and under the patronage of the Prime Minister, of the Senate, of the Chamber of Deputies and, for the 2011 edition, of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. Acqui Terme also organises the Literary Award “Premio Acqui Ambiente” (a biannual literary award dedicated to the memory of Ken Saro Wiwa), the International Biannual of Engraving, the International Dance Festival, "Acqui on Stage" and the “Acqui & Sapori” – Regional Truffle Fair each November - an important regional gastronomic event.
